The Hebrew language actually started out branched off of the Canaanite language that belonged to the Semitic languages and Afroasiatic. The Aramaic language and spelling bore a close resemblance but as time went on it took on its own form which related more closely to the Bible. As you dive deep into learning Hebrew, you are going to see that back in history, consonants were the only thing used in text but later on down the road they were also shared as vowels. The writings are sacred, so therefore it was never changed or diverted from.

Of course many had the need for Hebrew to be written and spoken in an easier form that was more useful for everyday communication, and thus the Committee of the Hebrew Language was formed in the 20th century by Ben-Yehuda. You will find in learning Hebrew and the history of the language he felt strongly about the Semitic roots of the language as opposed to European ones, so he tried to make the changes small and to keep it easy. The syntax of the Bible is not long and therefore can make changes a little difficult.

You are also going to find in learning Hebrew and the history that there are two different ways you can speak and learn the language. There is Ancient Hebrew and there is Modern Hebrew. Both are spoken in Israel and it does not hurt to learn a little of both if you are planning to visit. The vocabulary is not very big, which helps to make learning the language a little easier than some others. Modern Hebrew is the way that many western people choose to go since it can be written in cursive and is a little bit easier to communicate with.

Having some knowledge as to how the words are written and why they are written in the form they are can make it a little easier to understand. Once you see just how easy learning Hebrew can be you may choose to continue on with your lessons. It is becoming a very popular form of communication no matter what country you live in. And, you will have a better understanding of the meaning behind the words.
